Point Defiance Park is a 702 acre city park located in Tacoma, Washington - one of the largest city parks in the United States. The park is on a peninsula, surrounded by Puget Sound. I took these pictutres in the fall of 2005, on a walk around the outside edge of the park. There are miles and miles of trails in the park. They alternate going through old-growth forests, and saltwater beaches. If you walk on the outside edge trails all the way around the peninsula, it's approximately 5 miles with an elevation gain of maybe 350 feet (coming up from the beach). This is one of my favorite places on earth. I generally make this walk 2-3 times a week - every week.
